Hello, hello, and thank you for tuning in to today's episode of All Things Skin Wellness and Faith. I thank you so much for lending me your ears today and tuning in, and I appreciate you taking the time to just come and join us for today's episode.
Speaker 1:On today's episode, we are going to just talk and have a little discussion. This has been coming up to me, I think, a few times within my clients, so I thought let's just turn this into a podcast episode. I've had a lot of clients that have been coming in lately, and actually this has happened a lot over the years. It's not just lately, but it's over the years. A lot of clients that have been coming and asking me my opinions on Botox, my opinions on injectables and my opinions on fillers and things of that nature. So, just like I said, before we even get into this conversation, slash discussion this is my opinion. What I'm going to do is I'm going to give you guys my advice, I'm going to drop some facts for you and then, ultimately, there's no judgment. Whatever you decide. This is more so for informational purposes. This is my feel, my take. Obviously, everything I do within my life and everything that I put forth on this podcast, on this show, is from a biblical point of view. So I'm going to reflect on that as well. But at the end of today, at the end of the day, I should say, whatever you decide, whether you're considering Botox or injectables or anything else, I pray that you would go into it prayerfully, but it's a no judgment zone. Whatever you decide is on you. So going forth with that, let's just get started.
Speaker 1:Botox and injectables I'm also going to speak about Botox today because that is something that I'm well versed with. I have a lot of information on, I've dug into from a medical point of view, from a biblical point of view, for quite a few years now. Other injectables I mean, I'm sure they all pretty much are similar or the same, but I can't speak about Juvederm and all those other things in detail because I have not researched those. So, while I'm sure it's the same, we are just going to stick more so on the terms of Botox for today's conversation. So the first thing I want to start off with, as you guys know, my business is All Things Skin, organic skincare.
Speaker 1:This podcast is All Things Skin, wellness and faith, and we on this podcast like to talk about ways to keep ourselves well. I believe in living a true green and clean, natural lifestyle. I believe in eating fruits and vegetables and organic and just a lifestyle that is toxin free. So I think that you guys all should already know where I'm going with this. First and foremost, I can tell you outright, in my opinion, for Botox, would I ever do it? I would have to say absolutely not. There's a couple of different reasons and I'll go into each one step by step. First, I'm going to start off from the medical and the science side, just knowing what I know about it. First of all, if I'm pronouncing it right, that is, if I'm not forgive me, botulinum toxin. That second word, I think, just pretty much does it enough for me.
Speaker 1:Last episode not the bright crumbs episode, but the last episode we spoke about detoxing, and so when you are detoxing, you are looking to remove toxins out of your system. You want your body to remain clean, you want to have a clean slate, you want to make sure that your body is free and rid of all toxins so that you can live your best life, so that you can thrive, so that all the systems in your body are functioning and are up to par. So for me, right then and there, I can't see why we would go to put something that is outright labeled a toxin into our system if there is so much work, so much that we are doing, to detox our bodies. Everyone knows that we want to be toxin-free. If we go and we buy organic vegetables and things like that, we are doing it because we don't want to consume the toxins. So why on earth would one opt to put toxins back into their system for the sake of being rid of wrinkles or free of wrinkles? I can't exactly understand that one. So that's my first thing.
Speaker 1:My first spiel with it is that it is very toxic. Other than that, it's also invasive. You are going and you are injecting something, a foreign matter, into your body, there can be tons of adverse reactions depending on where it's being done. I know most people are going and having it done at med spas, but I've heard some scary stories of Botox parties and we don't necessarily know who it is that is injecting whatever it is, into our bodies. So there's another concern Just going and getting some information off of the medical journal website that I have access to and I'll read just a brief portion of it.
Speaker 1:I mean it goes so much in depth on toxic poisons in the world, with a wide spectrum of both therapeutic and cosmetic indications for use. So I mean we have doctors that are prescribing these Botox shots not only for wrinkles but also for TMJ. There's also for headaches, migraines, many different things. But right off the bat, in this first little 30 seconds excerpt off of what is this PubMed, it tells us that Botox is one of the most toxic poisons. So it's one of the most toxic and it's widely, widely used. So pretty much we have toxic poison that is being spread all over the country for the sake of vanity and also for the sake of some type of relief of TMJ and also headaches, and this is my problem with modern medicine in the US, especially because we have so many different things that we use not only cosmetically but even just to relieve different medical conditions, and it's not even relieving the condition, it's just relieving the symptoms, and it's all in the name of bringing a patient relief, but at the same time it can prove to be even more detrimental than the original diagnosis that the patient comes in with.
Speaker 1:So my question is is why is this ban in other countries and why does the US just let everything ride? Why is our FDA so free and so liberal with the amount of poisons that we allow to be put into our bodies? It's very, very scary. Botox, like I said, causes paralysis and that's actually how it works. So it's like this is scary. So this is a toxin, this is going to be put into our bodies. You know, over and over and over again and it's funny because this is not, to you know, to come down or, to you know, make anyone feel bad.
Speaker 1:But a lot of women come to see me and come to see me, you know, as all things skin, organic and you know question, you know, are all my products organic? And all these different things, and ask me about my ingredients, but then they have no problem using Botox. And my question is if you're not concerned with the toxin that you're injecting to get rid of the wrinkle, then how can you come and question on the potential toxins that are in my skincare, which obviously there are none. But it just makes you wonder, and I ponder on this all the time, like where is the mindset Like one toxin is okay and one is not? So I mean, if it were up to me, I would tell you absolutely not. No way would I recommend anyone using Botox.
Speaker 1:Look, we all know, as ladies, that we want to age gracefully and, trust me, I get it. I look in the mirror every day. I see the smile lines around. You know the smile lines around the side of my mouth. I can even see, you know, tiny little bit of wrinkle, you know, underneath my eye and as an esthetician, I totally get it and I sympathize with you, ladies. But I also want you to know, as an esthetician, that there are so many things that we can do and we don't want to get caught up on vanity. That's another thing that I want to speak about. The Bible speaks a lot about vanity and we don't want to become too obsessed with our looks. So there is a fine line of, you know, maintenance, and then there's the other side of you know just getting, you know excessive, excuse me and extreme, you know, with what we're doing, and while I do believe that we can go grow old gracefully, there are many things that we can do to work on these wrinkles. There are many things that God has given us to aid and to help us, you know, to grow old gracefully. I mean some of the women that I see within my church and some of the women that I just know in general that just have a divine relationship with the Lord, also happen to have some of the best skin, and I don't believe it's a coincidence at all.
Speaker 1:I think that, first of all, stress plays a lot in the way our skin ages and the way it looks. So let's just start there. If you are living a lifestyle where you are stressed out, easily stressed out, then stress weakens your immune system. Your immune system is weakened and then your body is not able to fight off different things and that starts to come out and it starts to show on your skin. That's number one. Number two if you're not paying attention to the foods that you eat, the environments that you're in.
Speaker 1:You're not protecting your skin. You're not paying attention to the foods that you eat, the environments that you're in. You're not protecting your skin. You're not making sure that you eat organic. You're not making sure that you're eating raw, whole foods. You're consuming maybe a lot of red meats or just meats in general, and I'm not going to go down that rabbit hole we can do that one on another episode because meats they're just not really best thing for you. They're really not. There are a lot of women out there that do eat plant-based and raw, and you can see the difference in their skin from eating meats. There's a lot of toxins that are going into our foods and especially into our meats as well, so that's something else to take into consideration.
Speaker 1:But my point, where I was going with this is, is that if you are taking the time to take care of your body internally, if you are paying attention to vitamins and supplements and how you're eating, what you're eating, then that is going to show in your skin and that right there is going to reduce the amount of wrinkling that you see on your skin to the point that you won't feel that you have the need to run and to get Botox and things like that. And then when you are combining that in conjunction the good, the healthy eating, the lifestyle, the exercise, making sure that we're eating clean and organic fruits and vegetables, making sure that we're eating raw and you're combining that with a good skincare regimen, then that right there is going to pretty much eliminate the need for Botox. I can, you know, attest to this myself. Like I said, it's not going to be 100%, because we do age and you know things tend to get older over time. But you're not going to be to the point that you know you're going to feel that you need to run and have this injected and that plumped and that lifted. One of the things that Botox does when you use it over time is it prevents you from producing collagen and elastin. So it's almost like it's a devil in itself, because the reason you go to get the Botox is to help you with the wrinkles that you have, and then any chance that you have to fight into your body has to fight to keep your skin from wrinkling. It's taking that away. So it's almost like it's keeping you dependent on, you know, this false anti-aging and, if you would say false anti-aging remedy. It really isn't so. Long story short. These wrinkles didn't get here overnight. They're not going to go away overnight. But there's also a lot of preventative measures and things that we can do to make sure that we age gracefully.
Speaker 1:I think that a lot of times what happens is we don't really pay attention to these little things. And this is not for everyone. I mean, there are some of us that are, you know, are highly into, you know, eating right diet, exercise, water, alkaline water, all these different things. But then on the other side of that, there are some of us that kind of had good genes and, you know, maybe just had it easy all of our lives and then all of a sudden we look in the mirror and we start to see these things creep up. And then our friend over here has had a little injection or a nip and tuck over there, and then we see it and we want to go and copy and kind of get a quick fix. And I just hate to tell you, when you do anything like that, it comes with a cost. So just to tell you, basically, think about what you're doing, think about the long-term detrimental things that could come from you having these shots, these injections.
Speaker 1:Like I said, droopiness in the eyelids is another thing that can happen. It weakens the muscles If you're injecting the same spot over and over again. I know those forehead lines, the 11s. That is an area of concern for a lot of women. If you're injecting that area over and over again, it can cause droopiness in the eyelids and that is something that then you'll even need to go and see another specialist to have another surgery done. And if anyone has ever seen a woman that has had too much surgery, it's like you go to fix one thing and then something else happens and then you're constantly running back. You know to try and fix a mistake.
Speaker 1:If you want to fix it, or even not even fix it, if you want to be preventative with it, let's just use the things that God gave us. He gave us fruits, he gave us vegetables. I mean, castor oil works amazing on wrinkles. Okay, I've noticed, just even on myself, a change in my skin just from using a little bit of castor oil and with my skincare products, especially underneath my eye area, you can get an all natural, 100% organic castor oil. It's great. It works on age spots. It has no side effects.
Speaker 1:Things like that are going to really, really help you without being detrimental to your health and hurting you. I mean, what does the Bible say in Song of Solomon 4-7?. You are altogether beautiful, my love. There is no flaw in you. There are no flaws in us, ladies.
Speaker 1:Okay, I know that these things start to droop and to sag and things start to happen, but the good news is, god is good. He's made ways for us to take care of all these things. The only thing is that we are going to have to get up and we're going to have to put in some work. We're going to have to go to the gym. We're going to have to stick to our skincare regimens. We're going to have to make sure, you know, that we're not snacking and you know, getting a donut or eating the white breads or, you know, just eating what we feel like because it happens to taste good. We're going to have to put some work into it, but there are definitely ways you know to come to. To come, what's the word I want to use? I'm sorry, twisted there. There are definitely ways.
Speaker 1:What I want to say is to you know, steer away from, you know, having injectables and things like that the Bible tells us also in Psalm 139, 14, that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. That just speaks right there to the craftsmanship that God has placed in us not placed in us, but God has used when he has created us, is what I want to say. So if he has made us altogether beautiful, if he has made us fearfully and wonderfully, then he's got a plan to preserve us. I mean, think about it. If you go out and you buy a car, a car is obviously it's going to need routine maintenance. So I think that what the problem is is that what we want to do is we want to go out and to be quick, to have a quick fix, and not do the routine maintenance over time.
Speaker 1:So my message to you today would be to just day, would be to just, you know, to put in that time, put in that energy, even if you don't necessarily see anything wrong. Now take care of your body. Now Think about the things that you are putting in your mouth. Become a little bit more disciplined, because in the long run you're going to see these results pay off, and then you won't have to feel, like you know, either sad or depressed, because you know you're looking, you're feeling like you're looking old or you're looking under the weather or whatever it is, and everyone else is going to get a shot, so I should too. No, we won't have to think like that. We serve a good and mighty God and he wants us to delight in him, and putting these toxins and things into our body is not allowing him to delight in it.
Speaker 1:I don't think that our father looks down from heaven and sees everyone injecting, like the the I'm sorry, like the excerpt that I just read said a toxin into us. It is the most poisonous toxin. I just want to drill that point home, because a lot of the times when I hear women speak about Botox, they will say something like oh, I just had a little tox, I just had a little Botox. And it's not just a little Botox, ladies. A little bit plus a little bit. A little bit equals a lot eventually. Would you go out and eat a little bit of arsenic? No, you wouldn't. I mean we don't. Like I said before, I referenced the fruits and the vegetables. We don't want toxins in our foods, we don't want pesticides on our fruits and vegetables, but we are quick to go out and inject a toxin into our bodies for the sake of eye wrinkle or forehead wrinkle. I mean even first.
Speaker 1:Corinthians 6, 12 and 13 says just because something is technically legal doesn't mean that it's spiritually appropriate. If I went around doing whatever I thought I could get by, I'd be a slave to my own whims. I know everyone's doing it and I know it seems like no big deal, and I know that we may even justify it by thinking that you know, oh, it just, you know, gives us a little boost, a little pick me up, but certainly we don't want to do anything. Number one that is displeasing to the father and I truly, in my heart of hearts, believe that this is displeasing because it is a poison. And number two vanity. Okay, the Bible speaks also a lot about vanity. We don't and I feel like Botox is just something that really does speak to vanity for the simple fact that it's extreme. It's an extreme measure that we're going through.
Speaker 1:Anyone that's had it and I mean I haven't had it can definitely say that it's not comfortable. It's definitely. It has a little pain or a little sting. There's puffiness, swelling, redness, whatever that takes place afterwards. This is more than just, you know, a little highlight or contour with, you know, our concealer or a little corrective makeup. This is outright putting an extreme poisonous toxin into our bodies. So I mean, like I said, I'll wrap it up there. This is not to bash anyone, this is not to make anyone feel bad, but this is more so a cry, a wake-up call for you to just to reconsider, to do a little bit more research, to look into other means of maintaining your age concerns.
Speaker 1:I mean, honestly, I do microcurrent. Microcurrent is a modality that I offer within my practice. It's called on the electronic Botox and I really don't like that. It's referred to like that, but on the other half of it it is microcurrent. It's a treatment that's done, that is non-invasive, no poisonous, no puffiness, swelling downtime, anything like that. It is something that you can look into and that you can have done professionally and it does lift and tone and basically it's the equivalent of exercising the muscles and lifting and toning the muscles, whereas Botox is paralyzing the muscles and causing damage over time. So I mean, if you're not able I can't say if you're not able, because we're all able to eat right and to take care of our bodies the way we should, it's just a matter of if we do it or not.
Speaker 1:So what I would honestly recommend is for you to go that route is to begin to look into more of the wellness side of anti-aging. Look into beginning to introduce things into your diet like collagen, peptides, proteins, more fruits, more vegetables, less breads and grains and things like that. Start to really detox your body instead of Botoxing your body, and what you will see will just be amazing. I mean even just juicing. I spoke on another episode recently about juicing and the benefits. All these things are provided to us from the Lord, god himself, no need to inject toxins or anything.
Speaker 1:If you go on a seven-day juice detox and you start to incorporate an alkaline diet, which is really more so, it's vegan eating, and I don't like to advocate for vegan eating because I say plant-based Because not everything vegan is good for you. There's a lot of vegan junk food out there and I do feel like vegan is more so of a fad right now, so I can say I eat plant-based. I do have cheese every so often because it's not something that I've really been totally able to give up yet, but you will see such a change in your skin, in your muscle tone, not just your skin on your face, your skin, all over your body. If you start to incorporate some of these health and wellness, healthy eating habits health and wellness such a time for words today, sorry guys Health and wellness attributes, as you can say into your regimen. If you start to do these things early on, or start to do it sooner rather than later, then the benefits will really start to show up.
Speaker 1:I am offering wellness consultations right now. That's something that you can sign up for on my website. So if you are interested, or if you just don't know where to get started, you're like you know, I want to start eating better. I've heard about juicing, you know. I just don't know where to start Because there's a lot going on with health and wellness right now. There's a lot of, you know, don't eat this, but eat that. One person says eat it, another person says it's no good, another person says paleo, someone else says vegan. There's a lot of stuff that's going on out there. So right now, I am offering a free 30-minute wellness consultation to introduce my wellness services that I'm doing in my practice, and if you are interested in signing up for a free 30-minute consultation, you can do so by going to my website, which is wwwallthingskinorganicnet.
