Body and Soul: The Parallel Power of Seeds for Physical and Spiritual Wellness
What happens when we recognize the profound connection between what nourishes our bodies and what feeds our souls? This eye-opening exploration reveals how the tiny seeds we consume mirror the spiritual seeds planted by scripture in remarkable ways.
Diving into the nutritional powerhouses of hemp, chia, flax, and pumpkin seeds, we uncover not just their physical benefits—from omega fatty acids to anti-inflammatory properties—but also their spiritual parallels. Hemp seeds provide essential nutrients just as God's Word offers essential truth. Chia seeds expand when properly soaked in liquid, reflecting how scripture grows within us when we meditate upon it. Flax seeds balance our internal systems while God's Word aligns our emotions and spirit. Pumpkin seeds promote rest, echoing Christ's invitation to find rest in Him.
This isn't just philosophical musing—it's practical wellness. The episode outlines common mistakes in seed consumption (like not properly soaking chia seeds) alongside spiritual applications and scripture references from Luke, Psalms, and Isaiah. The parallels prove strikingly practical: just as we intentionally prepare healthy meals, we must set aside time to digest spiritual truth. The episode culminates in a seed and scripture challenge that transforms meal prep into soul prep, creating a holistic approach to nourishment that honors our integrated nature as physical and spiritual beings.

Speaker 2:Hello and welcome back to another episode of All Things Skin, wellness and Faith. Natasha here with another episode Today we are going to dive in and we're going to have a little wellness discussion today On today's topic, we'll be talking about seeds for the body and seeds for the soul. I welcome you back today for today's discussion. Excuse me, because it's something that I have been incorporating into my daily I don't want to say diet, because it's not a diet for me but in my daily eating lifestyle and something that the Holy Spirit has just brought to me. Probably a few weeks ago I procrastinated a little bit on putting this information together for you guys, but I finally managed to, you know, tie the two together, just kind of basically briefly talking about the spiritual and physical connection. On nourishment, we're also going to jump into our scripture, which is going to be Matthew 4 and 4. And we're just going to tie together the connection between the two.
Speaker 2:So, like I said lately not lately, but for quite some time now you guys, most of you know that I consume a plant-based diet, and consuming a plant-based diet can be kind of tricky because you have to be really wise about making sure that you are getting in all your protein, all your different nutrients and a lot of the ways. One of the ways that I really do that is more so with my seeds. Now, excuse the voice again, it's still in and out, guys, so just bear with me. But now one of the ways that I really get that nutrition in is mainly through a lot of seeds. There are a lot of different seeds out there that we can consume for our nutrition, but for today I'm just going to dive in on four different ones. These four have no significance really, other than others that may be out there, other than they're significant to me because of the different attributes and the different nourishment qualities that they carry to them, carry with them, and also the flavor that they have makes them easy to incorporate with many different aspects of your eating. You can incorporate them into smoothies, you can incorporate them into yoga, and there are many different ways to utilize these. So these are, just like I said, four of my favorite, and those four are going to be hemp seeds, chia seeds, flax seeds and pumpkin seeds. These are all seeds that I'm sure that you are very familiar with. I'm just going to briefly go over some of the benefits of them in case you're not familiar. This is all information that you can, all you know, kind of look up and dive into deeper, but I also feel that it's information that's very important if you're deciding, when incorporating some of these into your diet, that you know a few of the different benefits to each of them.
Speaker 2:The first one I'm going to start with is hemp seeds. Hemp seeds I love those. I do take an omega, but I also like to get. I take an omega which is a fish oil, but I also am a firm believer in getting your nutrients in through sources of food and in leaving your supplements to be just that supplements, something that you're going to add in as an added benefit. So, while I do take about, I want to say, a thousand to fifteen hundred of an omega-3 fish oil, I also consume these seeds because a lot of them are really high and a good source of the omega-3s and also the omega-6 fatty acids. Now, hemp seeds are rich in omega-3 and omega-6, which we all know is a really good supplier, or supporter, I should say, of brain and heart health.
Speaker 2:Chia seeds it's another one. Chia seeds are high in fiber, will keep your bowels nice and regular, and they're also filled with a lot of antioxidants, excuse me. That will help you with digestion and also sustain energy. One thing I would like to mention about the chia seeds, which is a fact that many people are not aware of, is how they should be properly consumed, because they do tend to absorb moisture, and if you are consuming them incorrectly, by just kind of dumping them in your yogurt or just adding them to, you know, a smoothie, then they can actually cause you to be a little bit dehydrated because they absorb moisture. So one of the things I like to do, typically, the way I incorporate them is not so much in a yogurt but more so in a smoothie, and that's because I can soak it in the liquid first, and when you soak them in the liquid, it allows them to not absorb so much of the moisture in your body, but it absorbs the moisture that is within that liquid and it makes it a little bit less dehydrating.
Speaker 2:Now, another seed is the flax seeds. Flax seeds I love those in yogurt because they have a really rich and nutty flavor. They contain a lot of lignans, which is a really great antioxidant, and they promote hormone balance for ladies that are going through a lot of, you know hormonal issues, and even guys too. The flax seeds are really a good support of that, and they also have the omega-3s and they also support a balance for inflammation. Tumeric is another one that I like to use for inflammation, but since we're sticking to seeds today, I'm just going to focus on the flax seeds being a good seed to use for inflammation. Of course, you could definitely tie in some turmeric into your cooking, whether it's in your soups, your salads, your meats, however you want to incorporate the turmeric. Sometimes I incorporate that in my juices, but for the sake of today's episode, we're just going to stick to talking about our seeds. We're just going to stick to talking about our seeds.
Speaker 2:Now, the last seed I would like to discuss is another one of my favorite ones, which is a pumpkin seed Very good for magnesium and zinc. Magnesium and zinc these are two very important minerals that we need no-transcript. I love these four seeds the hemp, the chia and the flax and the pumpkin because there's so many different ways that you can incorporate them. The chia seeds are also good for hydration. They're also good for a youthful appearance within your skin and a helpful youthful glow, and that's also because of the hydrating fact. And then also the flax seeds and the pumpkin seeds. They have numerous ways that you can incorporate them into your diet. So the pumpkin seeds, I love to just either have those kind of like as a snack, like you would like a sunflower seed, or to eat them like nuts, or I also put those on my salads as well. Well, and then I also put them in my smoothies. So there's a few different ways that you can kind of incorporate those. And then the flax seeds as well. I love to incorporate those.
Speaker 2:And also my smoothies um, not my smoothies, I'm sorry my yogurt and yogurt. They're really good. They're good with the granola and the yogurt. They give it a little bit of substance. I usually take like, um, not a soy-based yogurt. I usually take like, what is it? I do, um, a coconut yogurt, I'm sorry. I add a little bit of coconut, um, a coconut yogurt with flax. I'll do some shards of coconut, some granola, some flax seeds, a little bit of raw organic honey, and that is an amazing snack, especially usually I really don't like to eat after seven. But if I find something that I like, if I have a little bit of a sweet tooth, I add a little bit of yogurt, and that's how I can incorporate something that has a little bit of sweetness to it but at the same time also having a lot of nourishment.
Speaker 2:Now to look at these seeds, we can see that these seeds are all small but they're mighty. This reminds us that little things, when consistent, have a big impact. We can look at these seeds and we can see, even with like the seeds of the word of god is that the seeds have a big nourishing impact. These are seeds that are going to be specifically nourishing to our bodies. But then we also have the word of god, and this is a cool way of how I love tying these things together for you, in a way that the Holy Spirit has tied it together for me, but basically saying that the Word is a seed that will nourish our spirit. And it's cool how the Holy Spirit kind of depicted this to me, because, as I was kind of looking up information on the seeds and the seeds that I like to consume, the Holy Spirit really related these and put these two together.
Speaker 2:And then I was thinking about scriptural references, because there are so many scriptural references where it talks about seeds. We have in Luke 8, 11, it talks about the word as the seed of God. So you can see that the word of God is nourishing to our spirit as the seeds are nourishing nourishing to our bodies. We have Psalm 1, 2 verse I'm sorry Psalm 1, verses 2 and 3 that tells us to delight in the law of the Lord, for he is like a tree that is planted by streams of water.
Speaker 2:I love this scripture because this scripture basically tells us that as we delight in the word of the Lord, that it grows roots in us. As the word is watered, it grows, and as it grows, that's how we grow. We grow deeper and essentially, when you're sowing seeds, that's what you're doing. You're planting something with a purpose, with an intent to grow and to grow deeper in a certain area, and that's what the word of God is doing for us. So we can see the same, pretty much the same, with Isaiah 55, 10 and 11. And that scripture tells us so is my word that goes out from my mouth. It will not return to me empty. So as the word of God goes out and it's sown into us as a seed, again, just like it relates in Psalms 1, 2 and 3. It is something that it grows deeper in us. It allows us to be nourished in our spirits, and when we're nourished in our spirits, that allows us to grow and establish a deeper relationship with the Lord.
Speaker 2:These things are also important and we can relate these to our nourishment of our body. Just like the chia seeds that swell with hydration, you can see that the word expands and strengthens us when it's watered with meditation. Just like the flax brings an internal balance. The word aligns with our spirit, our emotions, and helps us to make good decisions. Pumpkin seeds tend to promote rest and so does the Word of God, for the Word of God says in Matthew 11, 28, come to me and I will give you rest. So as we see the two parallels between spiritual nourishment and also the nourishment of our bodies, we can see, with God's intricate plan, that the two run parallel to each other. We can see in which ways that we have to nourish our bodies in the same way we have to nourish our spirits. It's so interesting the way the Holy Spirit related this to me and I hope that you're catching it in the way it was given to me, because when I started to look at these scriptural references and I also started to look at you know how it relates to nourishing our bodies. It just shows us how amazing the Lord is with the way he ties everything together.
Speaker 2:You can eat well, but it's like if you're not spiritually nourished it still leads to burnout and imbalance. Just as you prep meals or take supplements, you need to set an intentional time to digest the truth, the wisdom and the grace through the scripture. And also one thing you can see is that as you prepare your smoothie or your salad, you can declare verse. This is a way to integrate the two, so you can let your meal prep also turn into a time of your soul preparation, which is just. It's an amazing way to combine the two tune. It's an amazing way to actually walk out and live out, nourishing your body and nourishing your soul at the same time, keeping that same parallel perspective in place.
Speaker 2:One thing that I want to encourage you to do is to do a little seed and scripture challenge, and I thought that this was so interesting. As I was putting this together, I said to myself how can we walk this out? Excuse me, how can we walk this out so that we can remember the two together in a daily, tangible type of way? And one thing I was thinking about is nourishing your body and nourishing your spirit at the same time. What does that look like? So what I thought of a little challenge that you could do is, as you're maybe not using all these seeds or maybe are, maybe you are using them or maybe you don't use them on a regular basis. But one thing I was thinking that you could do is you could add one nourishing seed to your daily meal. As you add that one nourishing seed to your daily meal, pair it with a scripture each day for the week. This way, you're incorporating not only a new seed, but you're also incorporating a new scripture. Therefore, you're not only nourishing your body, but you're nourishing your spirit at the same time, and it's just an easy, cool, fun and a mindful type of way to kind of just parallel these two together and walk them out in the daily way.
Speaker 2:Then the third step you can take, because I've been doing a lot of journaling lately and I think I'm going to try and incorporate that into more of these podcasts. It's just little journaling prompts for you, because I feel like journaling is just so important. It really allows us to write down what the Holy Spirit is speaking to us, what the Lord is speaking to us, and then we have something that's written in black and white that we can reflect back to. So what you can do is you can journal the shifts that you notice when you incorporate these things. You can journal the shifts that you notice physically, the shifts that you notice emotionally and the shifts that you notice spiritually, and then, when you come to an end of you know, maybe a couple months or so, you can kind of reflect back and just see you know what the Lord is speaking to you and you can. This is something that you can continue to incorporate, ongoing A really cool idea that I thought you know, something that I could do along with you and something that you could do yourself.
Speaker 2:So just to recap really quickly, and something that you could do yourself. So just to recap really quickly as we wrap this up today, the seeds that feed the body are also the same as the word, because the word is a seed that feeds your soul. I would like to definitely encourage you to take a holistic approach to your wellness. I'd like to invite you to share your reflections of your favorite seed in your scripture combo. You could share it via email, you could go and you could post that on any of my social media. But I would like to just really, you know, just be in contact with you guys.
Speaker 2:Even on the podcast, there is a section in the show notes. I'm not sure if it's on every single platform, but for those of you that are using Apple, there's a section that says text or text. I think it says text or text us, something to that nature, and you can kind of just use that if you like, to give a little bit of feedback just to how you're making out, what you're learning, anything that's new, that's encouraging, that's enlightening to you, or anything just to reflect on anything that you have received from this episode or any episodes of the podcast. All right, guys, with my voice, having this little bit of strain still, I'm going to wrap it up for there for today. Having this little bit of strain still, I'm going to wrap it up for there for today, but I really hope that this episode has blessed you. I pray that it has encouraged you.
Speaker 2:I pray that you take a deeper look into these scriptures. Again, the scriptures that we reference will be in the show notes, but just to recap, that was Luke 8, 11, psalms 1, verses 2 and 3, isaiah 55, verses 10 and 11. And so with that, guys, I'm going to wrap it up for you today with a brief prayer. So, father God, I just thank you, lord God, for those that are tuning in today to listen to this episode. I pray, lord God, that, as we have discussed seeds, that you, lord, would be a seed through your ways to incorporate the two and to nourish not only their bodies but to nourish their spirits as well. In the name of Jesus, I pray for growth in each and every one of them, in mind, body, soul and spirit. Thank you, heavenly Father. In the mighty and matchless name of Jesus, I pray and I say amen. All right, thank you so much, guys, for tuning in today and for lending me your ears. Until the next time, be blessed and be a blessing. Thank you.
